I still meet good people who use older versions of this OS in their newer hardware only to avoid unwanted problems. I, on the other hand, always live in the bleeding edge. Jul 02, 2020 The signs are quite good that Big Sur will also install on somewhat older Macs that Apple has refused to support officially. The way to do this is, as usual, a patch. Currently, the beta version of Big Sur macOS 11 can be installed on machines that are several years older.
I downloaded Yosemite and when I try to use Word, I get two message. The first says that Office needs to be reintalled and that there is a problem with the installer. The second message says that Word couldn't run without the legacy version of Java SE 6 runtime. But, Java doesn't have that download no their site. Mac OS X Yosemite (and the newer versions) are having a later version of Java Runtime (SE 8.0). However, Java Runtime is not backward compatible.
